Laser Processing Optics – Fast, Focused, and Efficient
A customer approached me with a clear challenge: they needed an optical system capable of generating a defined focus from a light guide fiber—with precise control over working distance, spot diameter, and beam homogeneity. The technical requirements were ambitious, as the full fiber étendue had to be utilized efficiently.
Time was critical. Within a two-hour Teams meeting, we refined the specifications together, and I proposed a practical solution using three standard catalog lenses. I then simulated the system in Zemax to validate performance and feasibility.
As a result, the customer received a complete optical simulation, a detailed bill of materials (BOM), and a specification document—ready for immediate prototyping. The optics were assembled and tested by the customer, who confirmed that the system met all expectations.
Stereo Camera Development – Tailored Innovation from Concept to Prototype
When a customer set out to develop a custom stereo camera, they faced a challenge: no off-the-shelf solution could meet their demanding technical and cost requirements. That’s where our expertise came in.
We began by working closely with the client to define a precise specification tailored to their application. From there, we conducted a comprehensive market analysis of available image sensors and plastic optics, carefully selecting components that balanced performance, availability, and cost.
To bring the concept to life, we sourced suitable optics and sensors in prototype quantities from Asia and built a fully functional demonstrator using FPGA and USB controller evaluation kits. A custom-designed illumination optic was also developed and tested to ensure optimal image quality under real-world conditions.
Our team developed dedicated firmware for both FPGA and ARM platforms, enabling seamless integration and performance tuning. The demonstrator provided a solid foundation for the next development phase: we handed over the electronics design to the customer and helped identify a reliable manufacturing partner for the camera modules.
This project is a perfect example of how we turn ambitious ideas into working solutions—efficiently, collaboratively, and with a clear path to production.
Camera-Based Laser Alignment – Practical Testing for Precision Optics
A customer needed a compact and reliable alignment and testing station for micro-optics used in an existing product. I developed a custom test optic tailored to the application, while the mechanical setup was implemented by the customer.
To ensure a robust and cost-effective solution, I selected standard industrial cameras and developed dedicated testing software, including image processing algorithms optimized for the task.
Once the system was complete, it was transferred to the customer along with comprehensive training sessions to ensure smooth integration into their workflow.
